The unemployment rate for Veterans continues to be problematic for certain segments of the Veteran population, and for many — especially those returning with disabilities — transitioning to the civilian workforce can be daunting, despite the fact that the Veteran community is a ready source of qualified candidates with transferable skills proven in real-world situations.

Now, a new tool can help businesses support Veterans by specifically targeting them in workforce recruitment efforts.

The recently launched Veterans Job Bank, powered by NRD.gov, offers Veterans quick and easy access to hundreds of thousands of private-sector job opportunities, specifically targeted at Veterans, by providing a list of current openings based on search criteria such as zip code and military occupational code (MOC).

Businesses of all sizes and in all industries can participate in the Veterans Job Bank by tagging job announcements as "Veteran Committed" to ensure they are discoverable by the search engine. To learn how, read Instructions for Employer Participation.

In addition, those who would like to support Veterans in their job search can add the Veterans Job Bank Widget to their websites. (A widget is an online application built to be displayed on any website, and can also be placed on a personalized home page or blog.)

An easy to implement feature that any individual, company or organization can use, the Veterans Job Bank Widget allows Veterans to quickly and easily conduct a targeted job search directly from the website they are visiting.

The Veterans Job Search Widget is maintenance free and automatically updates as jobs are posted by employers. To learn how to add this feature to a website, visit the Veterans Job Search Widget page on the National Resource Directory (NRD) website.

The Veterans Job Bank and Veterans Job Bank Widget were created in coordination with private industry leaders such as Google, Microsoft, SimplyHired, LinkedIn and Monster.

To access the Veterans Job Bank and learn more about the NRD, go to NRD.gov.

The NRD is a collaborative effort among the U.S. Departments of Labor, Defense and Veterans Affairs.
